Hello we are Kelly & Darren King hence our affix Kelandaz, we are from
County Durham where we live with our 2 sons and 4 dogs
I`ve grown up with dogs mainly Labradors and Spaniels, unlike Darren who had
no animals whilst growing up, so came as quite a
shock when he married me.
Our first family dog was Holly, a
Rottweiler/Labrador cross who we
got back in 2001,I love large
dogs and decided I wanted to own a full pedigree Rottweiler.
Unfortunately I learned the hard way and didn`t
do as much research on good
breeders as I should have done, and went ahead and bought a puppy from someone that just bred their pets, without much thought regarding health tests and the breed standard.
Boomer our first Rottweiler came poorly at 11 months and was diagnosed with EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency) we
paid out countless vet fees, but sadly his kidneys failed and I chose to put him to rest in 2010.
Boomer paved the way for my love of Rottweiler`s, even though he was very sick his temperament was second to none and his loyalty outstanding.
I knew I wanted another, but this time did a bit more research and in May 2010 I went to pick up my boy ,Ibbogray Crackled Fire, but to us he`s called Memphis.
I`m a firm believer taking a dog, any dog to a class, which is great for socializing training and bonding as well as
learning. I love anything to do with dogs so I thought I`d try my hand at showing and found a lovely ring class near
us, more for the fun really, but we are very pleased to say that Memphis has enjoyed some success in both
open and championship levels of showing and went to Crufts for the first time in 2011 gaining a 2nd in his puppy class!
We have met some great people at shows. I love the Rottweiler as a breed so 2011 along came Ceearott Can Can aka Nala quickly followed by VonKassel Freya from our good friends Alan & Paul Rekert of VonKassel. Final homebred by us Kelandaz Baroness became the 4th dog here.
Memphis, Nala, Meka and Freya are not just show dogs they are well spoilt
family pets living indoors, and enjoying a full and active life, daily walks/runs their doggie friends.
We feed all our dogs on the Raw Diet and I`m a frim believer in natural health.
Alfie and I have been recently attending training weekends at East Cleveland IGP club with Vonkassel Kara, which I love. Now along with Nala who went on to achieve her BH both Vonkassel Freya and Vonkassel Kara have gained their BH too! and my Passion for working & obedience is increasing. I am the secretary of the BRSDC and organize and attend show & working event`s, Meka passed Levels 1 & 2 & Freya have passed Level 1 , 2 & 3 of the BRSDC working tests. Freya is now handled by my son Alfie who also loves the breed, working them and doing helper work.
Unfortunately Memphis passed away at a good age of 10 years old and Meka also passed, it is hard breaking and they are missed greatly.
We are hoping to continue to enjoy working and showing, and hope that the dogs have fun while doing it.
